Digg is a fun social news and bookmarking community site that is very popular. It is located at http://www.digg.com
Anyone can sign up for a free account there, and start “digging” sites. To use Digg, every time you come to a site that you like, you hit a button to “digg” it.
Each digg counts as a vote, and the more votes a site gets, the more exposure it gets on the Digg website.
Not only does a digg help by giving you a valuable backlink, but it can result in a ton of traffic too, especially if the content on your website is interesting.
For more about online marketing strategies that take advantage of Digg.com's social bookmarking tools, please watch the video.
Much more detail on social news web site marketing techniques like Digg, including success story case studies, is included in chapter 11 of e-Riches 2.0: Next Generation Online Marketing Strategies.

I never really knew how these social bookmarking sites worked to my advantage and I appreciate the information. I just updated my Digg after watching this. Now I'm going to add my posts and pages to Digg and see what happens!
Can this be done automatically via Ping.fm and on sites that aren't blogs?

Hello Emily,
Yes, people do this all the time.
The most efficient way is to post a sharing button or toolbar that offers quick links not only to Digg but to Twitter, Facebook, Propeller and many other social services.
You can get tools like this for free from services like ShareThis.com and AddThis.com.
And, if you are running a blog, there are often easily installed "widgets" available that install with just a few mouse clicks to offer sharing on every post you make.

Hello!
I'm very excited to hear about social bookmarking, including digg.com.
I'm wondering if it's possible to ask visitors to my website to sign up for Digg and to digg my site.
Has anyone else done this? I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks!
